Pregnancy – transition to a new phase of life

There are very few experiences in a woman’s life that are as far-reaching as becoming pregnant. Pregnancy – especially the first one – and the birth of a baby change just about everything: your family, your relationship with your partner, your living conditions, your household budget, how you manage your time, your figure –life as you have known it so far seems turned upside down! Pregnancy represents your transition into a completely new phase of life. It’s a good thing, then, that this transition lasts three quarters of a year, as the baby is not the only one who needs a lot of time to develop. The pregnant woman and future father also need this time to prepare themselves psychologically for their new situation.

One of our main concerns is to ensure that the psychological needs of expectant mothers are recognised as an important factor in their medical care. The success of comprehensive antenatal care and birth assistance should not be underestimated, as evidenced by the drastically reduced infant mortality rate, among other things. As the old saying goes: “Health is not everything, but without health, there is nothing.”
